In this shot the genre of crime and action are thrown straight at the audience and set the down for the whole film as the identity of the man is withheld to protect his identify from not being caught, this suggest he is committing a crime and could show he know what he is doing is wrong as he has to cover his face up from what he is doing and this could be his way of covering the guilt and the moral wrong he is doing.
Furthermore as his face is withheld it shows he is not comfortable and confident with what he is doing and being caught out is on his made this shows he does have conscience and does know the difference between right or wrong however his financial problems are making him go through with the crime. However there is a bluured filter and this could suggest he is unsure about what he is doing and not sure about his place and way of life and this is shown through the background as he has no self of self and this could signify that he has lost a sense of himse;f while getting himself into crime and now there is no escape and this si presented as the blur suggest there is no clear or easy way out.
Moreover the criminal is at a medium close up this allows us to see the limited facial expressions we can due to the covering of the face however the eyes are steering straight at the audience and this eye contact is powerful and makes the audience feel uncomfortable in the power of the antagonist. This could cause the audience to break eye contact, this would highlight the dominant presence of the antagonist. In addition the eyes look woundable and it looks like he is calling out for help and this could connote is feeling of being stuck in the criminal world that he cant escape however hard he tries this could be highlighting societies view of criminals as criminals are put in jail and when they finally leave they cant get jobs due to their criminal world. When they have nothing to do but go back to their criminal past and this is a viscous cycle.
Lastly the antagonist is wearing dark colours this could foreshadow the future that may lie for him and this is death as the crime is very dangerous and the audience understand this and how lucky he is to survive every day. Dark colours could also show what a complex and mysterious character is as he doesn’t give much away and leaves the audience to question and assume much about him and this could connote that crime made him that way as e cant open up to anyone he doesn’t trust due to the work he does. The black colour could also show how there is no light left and there isn’t a good ending at the end of the journey and there may not be any hope left abd this is the life he is stuck with.
