Texual Analysis

We are firstly presented with a car journey that is from point of view of the driver this allows the audience to see from the antagonist perspective and builds to the tension and allows the audience to feel the emotion the characters are feeling, this enhances the feeling the audience can experience as they can relate to the scene much better.

Furthermore we get to see the transaction of the weapon that is in this a pistol here the genre of crime is highlighted as weapons connote  a criminal event and in most crime a weapon is used as a tool to commit a crime, this creates crime and allows the audience to feel tension and creates a mood that allows the audience to be at the edge of their seats.

We are then presented with a scene of a criminal putting on gloves this suggest that there is a committing of a crime and the criminal doesn’t wont to get caught as the gloves wont allow any fingerprints to be transferred onto he weapon that could prove the criminal is guilty this suggest the criminals are  not doing this the first time and probably are professionals.

The audience is then presented with a shooting this highlights crime and action as this is a major part of action and crime, the blood suggest danger and death of the victim who has the gun dealer and this creates a sense of irony as the vivtim was a gun dealer therefore he is a criminal and he is also a antagonist however he got killed by main antagonist and this was the masked man.

Furthermore the audience is then presented with a  car crash where one of the antagonist  is dead and the other wakes up there is a jump cut to signify him waking up this suggest that crime is dangerous and if you kill the same will come back to you as is presented by the dead partner of the antagonist.

Lastly we can see the antagonist loading a new magazine in his pistol this is pre meditated murder and shows he is ruthless and he is ready to kill to kill anyone in his way this shows his power and authority as the shot was also taken at a low angle, by doing this the antagonist is created as someone of power and the audience can see this clearly, this also shows he is evil and has no conscience to do what Is right.

About a girl

By Minda

In this short film ‘About a Girl’ there is a main character that is a teenager talking about her life. The short film starts with non diegetic music which turns to diegetic music, with a long shot of this girl singing and dancing along to stronger Britney spears, this could signify all the struggles she has been though and singing and dancing is her freedom.

There is then a mid shot of her looking down at maybe her phone, this could signify that she doesn’t want to be there/near her family and it could signify that she is isolated, the main character is with her mum and sister, which are in the background. Her mum is paying no attention to her kids but to her scratch card this could connote she doesn’t care about the children but about money.

In this scene there is a mid shot of the girl and her dad in a café, he isn’t paying much attention to her which could signify that looking for a job is more important that spending time with his daughter.

This scene shows the girl outside a pub this could signify that her dad doesn’t care about her safety as he has left her outside a pub alone.

In this scene we see her sitting on a bridge with a plastic bag beside her this could signify that she is thinking of doing something stupid, as the lighting in this scene seems dark which could connote deep thoughts.

We see a long bird eye view shot of her though away a bag in the cannel, this could signify her throwing away her problems as we then see that in the bag was a baby. This could also show that it’s good to throw stuff in the cannel as she explains that her mum found a dog and told their neighbour to throw it in the same place.

This is an establishing show which shows the girl walking away from what she has just done this could connote that she has no support within her family.

Love Hate

In the first scene we get a high angle shot of a man standing by himself with no one in the frame, this could convey to us that he is lonely or feels that he doesn’t have anyone but could also suggest that he feels isolated. We then get a series of medium close ups of all the promoters/people working, showing us the comparison to how happy and energetic they are compared to this man in the opening scene, This could signify to us that he is unhappy, we also get a feeling of awkwardness this could also suggest to us that he a awkward or that he feels uncomfortable and awkward around these particular people or people in general.

The establishing shot of this same man shows him standing alone on a train platform, the fact that he is standing by him self could convey to us he is feeling a bit lonely. We then get an over the shoulder shot of him looking at a photo of his ex girlfriend, the photo then gets blown away in the wind signifying to us he lost her and that that she is no longer in his life.

A medium close up is used showing a woman randomly appearing out of nowhere, this gives us as an audience a feeling of spookiness.

When this man and strange woman is sitting on the train there is a low angle shot of the woman making her look superior to the man, This could connote that she has some kind of people over the man. Also in this seen there is a dark shadow behind the woman this could suggest to us that she could be evil, this also happens in the next scene when they are walking alone a bridge, she is walking along the dark side and the man is walking on the sunny side, this could convey to us they are two different types of people.

Soon after then both the man and the woman are in the house he asks the woman to leave after closing the door, he turns around to find her sitting back in the house, her random appears again makes it clear to us that this woman is not real.

The establishing shot of them in the bedroom shows the woman sitting next to him looking down at the man, making him look vulnerable this could suggest to us that his ‘hate’ is taking over and controlling him.
